A Tale of Tolls and Triumphs

Ah, the sweet taste of victory! Or at least that’s what MAGA enthusiasts might think. Recently, Donald Trump and Marco Rubio have been celebrating a big ‘win’ regarding the Navy not having to pay tolls while passing through the Panama Canal. Cue the confetti and jubilant parades! But hold on a second. Did they really win? Spoiler alert: not quite.

A Vintage Victory from 1977

Let’s time travel back to 1977 when the Panama Canal Treaty was signed. Yes, that’s right – the same treaty that established this grand toll-free destiny for the Navy was put in place ages ago – long before Trump’s infamous meltdowns. So, while they’re popping off fireworks, the policy itself has been shipping smoothly since the dawn of the millennium when Panama finally took control in 1999.

Rinse, Recycle, Repeat

Perhaps this ‘new’ policy is just another classic chapter from Trump’s playbook: Rinse, recycle, repeat. It’s quite the impressive feat to claim a decades-old treaty as a personal win, but if it fits your narrative, why not? Next, we might be told that they finally figured out how to use a compass! So, while the MAGA fan club celebrates, let’s remember: sometimes it’s not about winning, but rather about spinning! Cheers to that!
